Today’s buildings are deeply integrated with cloud platforms, external APIs, and a whole host of vendor managed services. Systems are constantly working, pulling energy analytics, running fault detention algorithms, automated operations etc. The entire ecosystem extends way beyond the traditional self-contained building network. In a lot of ways it’s like managing complex distributed application platforms that just happen to have physical walls.

Most organizations have put the basics in place, firewalls, VPNs for remote vendors, identity management systems and patch management protocols, but if those are so solidly in place, it brings to question: Why are we still seeing breaches in OT environments?
